Back To School

Even though the thermometer is reaching close to ninety degrees, summer is shortly coming to a close and now school is in session. We’ve had a very exciting summer at BBBSLI with events such as our Summer Sizzle Poker Tournament, Gala Kickoff Cocktail Reception and the 14th Annual Hamptons Offshore Fishing Tournament. The coming months have just as exciting events such as the 16th Annual Presidential Gala, Battle of the Bands and Holiday for Kids’ Sake.

Now that our “Littles” are back to school, our School-Based Programs at Hampton Bays High School and in Sag Harbor, will soon kick-off, helping to mentor children on the East End. In addition our Hofstra College Mentoring Program will also start this fall, helping to reach more children in need across Long Island.

Thanks to our volunteers, sponsors, supporters and of course our “Littles,” BBBSLI is thriving and hopes to grow and impact more children. BBBSLI has a number of events and opportunities to get involved with, so please check out our Events page (http://www.bbbsli.org/ABOUT/Events/) or follow us on Facebook and Twitter and check back to see what’s new!

Get to Know the 16th Annual Presidential Gala Honorees

The 16th Annual Presidential Gala will be held on October 2nd at the Crest Hollow Country Club. This year, we are honoring Man of The Year, David Zlotnick, Woman of the Year, Kathleen Stanley and for the first time, Organization of the Year, Long Island Elite. All three honorees are invaluable assets to their community and are significant supporters of our mission to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Man of The Year - Daniel Zlotnick is CEO of Katz Zlotnick & Associates and Applied Pension Services, LLC, in Hauppauge, New York. As CEO, Daniel oversees the company’s wealth management, corporate benefits divisions and third-party administration firm. Daniel is a highly recognized speaker in the utilization of fringe benefits and wealth management techniques for businesses and executives. He has been an invited speaker to the New York Stock Exchange, served as a faculty member at Lawlin, frequent speaker for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and various other speaking venues. Daniel has also been published by various journals and newspapers.

He is an active supporter of many community and charitable causes, including the ALS Foundation and Child Abuse Prevention Services. Daniel’s first experience with BBBSLI was attending the annual Gala over 10 years ago. After learning of the agency’s Holiday for Kids’ Sake, he decided the event could be a great experience for his two children. It has since become an annual requirement for his family, and many of his children’s friends as well.

Woman of The Year - Kathleen Stanley is a Senior Vice President and Regional Sales Manager for Capital One Bank. With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, Kathleen directs a staff of 10 and is responsible for the sales of cash management products and services for the Northeast Commercial Bank. Prior to joining Capital One, Kathleen launched the Treasury Management Department for both Empire National Bank, State Bank of Long Island and worked as a treasury sales advisor for Bank of New York.

In 2009 she was recognized as one of Long Island’s 40 rising stars under the age of 40; and in 2007, as a Woman of Achievement in Banking and Finance by the Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women. In 2012 Kathleen was a Butterfly Award recipient at the Inaugural Girls Incorporated of Long Island Butterfly Awards Dinner.

Kathleen is a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island and was recently named President of Hofstra University’s Zarb Business School Alumni Association. She is an avid supporter of the NSLIJ Katz Women’s Hospital and sits on their Commerce and Industry Committee.

Organization of The Year - Long Island Elite, founded in 2002, is an organization dedicated to fostering the growth and development of Long Island’s business professionals under the age of 40, making up the region’s emerging business leaders. Members of LIE and its board of advisors accomplish their goals through programs, activities and special events that support and raise funds for Long Island’s not-for-profit community. They look to impact the future of Long Island by standing together to support each member’s career and by helping those who are less fortunate in their own backyard.

This year, LIE selected Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island as their charity partner. Over the next year its members will be actively supporting, attending and participating in BBBSLI events and activities. The joint effort will have a large impact on the surrounding community and make a difference in the lives of young people all over Long Island.
