SharePoint 2007 - Securing strategically sensitive data

Presented by: Adam Buenz – Midwave Consulting Company

SharePoint 2007 technologies offer robust authentication and authorization layers for securing SharePoint leveraging the authentication schemes provided by the underlying platform (IIS and ASP.NET). This session discusses how to configure the required components within a Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) Web Application to support Windows Authentication or Forms Based Authentication, as well as the inherent differences and implications between each. Furthermore, the session will demonstrate how WSS takes the identity established by the underlying authentication provider and wraps it in a profile cached at the level of the site collection.

The second half of the session will be from a programming perspective, explaining how the authorization within a site collection is managed in terms of groups, permission levels, and securable objects as well as how to write code to automate the configuration of these authorization settings. Various techniques will be demonstrated emphasizing significance on differences between Windows and SharePoint security context.
